This year it’s  Friday, December 17th.

It is the brain child of Luke Knowles and his wife Maisie. They started this retail phenomenon in 2008 by recruiting hundreds of merchants to offer free shipping with guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve. Each year his list of participating retailers has gotten bigger and better with stores like Ralph Lauren, LL Bean, Victoria’s Secret, The Sharper Image, Nine West, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Toys R Us, and many, many, many more.

More than 750 merchants participated in 2009; more than 650,000 merchant offers were clicked on; and more than 35,000 sales took place last year. This year the website rounded up more than 1,600 retailers to participate. Since Christmas is on a Saturday this year shoppers are losing out on those last shopping days so this is a win-win situation for everyone.

Be sure to read the fine print on the store website, some only offer free shipping with a minimum purchase.

This year’s event begins at 12am EST on Friday, December 17th and ends at 12am EST on December 18th.
