If nothing else goes wrong then a most BB's will be fine. For those who get to sick to work and have no family to care for them however life will be short and painful. My husband grandmother was a retired postal worker. She died at age 61 of COPD and cancer. At the time of her death she did not have enough to pay for at home care or even to go into a hospice. If the crash had not left us unemployed nobody in the family would have been able to quit working to care for her. She would have died alone. Stocks and bonds did not help her to the bathroom or make her lunch. This is why Gen X will shy away from stocks. That and we are all poor.

Well, finance dad, I agree w you. We boomers are, on average, healthier and "younger" than our parents were at our present age. Many of us, after working over 40 years, if not having been making mega bucks or under a union umbrella, will still have some IRA or 401k type plan, but it will not amount to much by today's standards. As a nurse, I had no retirement pension offerred at the hospitals I worked until 1982! Bottom line: most of us, if able, will continue to work full time or simply semi retire. We will have to in order to make budget!
